Stephen
Tong is currently undertaking clinical training in the field
of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is also undertaking a Doctor
of Philosophy (PhD) at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology,
Monash Medical Centre, exploring hormone levels in mothers’
blood as possible predictors of obstetric problems occurring
later in the pregnancy.
His research interests includes laboratory based studies
of placental hormones, and twin studies, including early pregnancy
survival, the epidemiology of twinning and methods to determine
whether they are identical or not via ultrasonography. He
also has an interest in ultrasound characterisation of the
corpus luteum, an important structure found in the ovary and
produces the important hormone progesterone.
